The history of the polytechnic dates back to 1969 when an international working party was set up by the Western State Government of the time to advise on the establishment of a polytechnic. The working party recommended, among other things, the establishment of a polytechnic in the Western State. Its general objective should be to produce technicians who would make an important contribution to the social and economic development of the country and the Western State in particular. The Western State Government accepted this recommendation and Ibadan Polytechnic was born.
Ibadan Polytechnic is the first higher education establishment in Nigeria to offer the TRC University Transition Programme for those students looking to gain guaranteed entry to TRC’s partner universities in the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada, Russia and Jamaica, who have for a variety of reasons been unable to enter a degree or the subject they wish to study. This is a unique group of students who have the financial means to study overseas and who will gain guaranteed university placement overseas after completing their TRC University Transition Programme.
